BTC Urges Congressional Funding for Manufacturing Programs

Chuck Grimm, Vice President and General Manager of BTC Electronic Components (BTC) joined a delegation of top level executives from North Carolina in meetings with State Representatives to the U.S. Congress to discuss the importance of manufacturing on the nation’s economy and urge continued funding for the Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP).

Grimm met with officials from the offices of Representatives David Price-D, Robin Hayes-R, Howard Coble-R, and Bob Etheridge-D and Senators Elizabeth Dole-R and Richard Burr-R.

The Congresswoman and men were asked to sign letters to the House and Senate Appropriators requesting full funding support for the MEP program in fiscal year 2007 of $106 million. MEP is the federal funding agency within the US Department of Commerce which funds programs that train businesses to improve their productivity, quality and profits.

The group visit was sponsored by the Industrial Extension Service (IES) at North Carolina State University. IES is partially funded by MEP and provides training for manufacturers and businesses in North Carolina to improve productivity. IES offers products and services for continuing education; industrial and solar energy; environmental, safety, and health management; lean enterprise; and quality.

With training and assistance from IES, BTC achieved ISO 9001:2000 standard certification from Underwriters Laboratories Inc. in 2005.
